Incruentum altaris sacrificium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the apostolic constitution or the papal bull Incruentum altaris sacrificium of August 10, 1915, Pope Benedict XV decreed . that every priest may offer the mass offering three times for the deceased on All Souls Day and that every altar for this day is endowed with the privilege of obtaining a perfect indulgence for the deceased.

prehistory

This privilege had previously only been enjoyed by religious priests in Spain and Portugal, and later also in Latin American countries . This permission goes back to Pope Benedict XIV , who gave it in 1748.

Provisions

The 1915 ordinance extended this permission to all priests of the Roman Catholic Church. In addition, Benedict XV confirmed. some decrees of his predecessors and laid down the liturgical forms for the celebration of these masses. He instructed the then responsible Congregation for the Discipline of the Sacraments and Holy Rites to publish these provisions in an apostolic constitution.

This papal arrangement is taken into account in the Roman Missal , because there it says: “On the memorial day of all deceased believers (All Souls' Day) all priests can celebrate or concelebrate three masses , if the masses take place at different times and attention is paid to the application of the second and third fair is set.
