Indica is a Finnish symphonic metal band founded in 2001 that also mixes their music with pop rock . The group describes their style as mystic-romantic pop.

history

Indica was founded in 2001 by two classmates Jonsu ( violin ) and Heini ( double bass ), who met in a youth string orchestra. Shortly after the founding, Sirkku ( keyboard ) as well as Jenny ( guitar ) and Laura ( drums ) joined the band.

Jani Jalonen from Sony BMG Music Finland became interested in the band and after a gig offered them a record deal, which was signed in early 2003.

The first album Ikuinen Virta was created soon after and was released that same year. In contrast to the following recordings, this is less experimental, but more poppy and faster. The single of the same name quickly became a great success in Finland and helped the band to numerous appearances at well-known festivals. The album went platinum in the summer of 2004 for 32,444 records sold.

A year later, the second album Tuuliset Tienoot , which still reached gold status , was released and in 2007, Indica's third album Kadonnut Puutarha was released. Both albums seem more mature and testify to the mystical songwriting that Indica is known for today.

From autumn 2007 Indica played in the Scandinavian region as the opening act for Nightwish , which significantly increased their international recognition. Due to good relationships, the Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen decided to let Jonsu sing the Finnish version of the instrumental track Last of the Wild , which helped Indica to an international breakthrough. In addition, Holopainen took on the role of producer for the new Indica album. The album, entitled Valoissa , was released on September 17, 2008. Pahinta tänään been previously released as e-Single; the title track Valoissa followed three weeks before the album release. In the spring of 2009, Indica will again accompany Nightwish on their tour, this time at performances all over Europe.

In June 2010 the fifth album A Way Away was released , which contains songs with English lyrics for the first time. The English-language debut of the band consists of already released songs, which have been translated into English and musically revised in collaboration with Rory Winston . It climbed to 20th place in Germany, 32nd in Switzerland, 52nd in Austria and 8th place in the Finnish homeland. The associated own (club) tour through Germany as well as with appearances in the Netherlands (October 30th), Switzerland (November 11th) and France (November 14th) started on October 23, 2010 in Flensburg.

In January 2014 the albums Shine (in English) and Akvaario (in Finnish) were released after some delays .
