The Broad River is one of the headwaters of the Congaree River . It is about 240 kilometers long and flows in western North Carolina and in the north of the neighboring state of South Carolina in the southeastern United States of America . When it flows into the Congaree, the Broad River becomes part of the catchment area of the Santee River , which flows into the Atlantic .

The Broad River rises in the Blue Ridge Mountains in eastern Buncombe County in North Carolina and flows in a south-southeast direction through and along the boundaries of Rutherford , Polk , Cleveland and Cherokee Counties in North Carolina; in South Carolina it flows through or along counties of York , Union , Chester , Fairfield , Newberry, and Richland . In North Carolina, the river to Lake Lure is dammed; in South Carolina, he passed the Sumter National Forest and the communities Cherokee Falls and Lockhart before by the confluence with the Saluda River in Columbia is the Congaree River.
Major tributaries of the Broad River include the Green , Second Broad and First Broad Rivers in North Carolina, as well as the Bowens , Pacolet , Sandy , Tyger , Enoree and Little Rivers in South Carolina.
