The Indo-Australian Tüpfelrochen ( Himantura uarnak ) is a ray species from the family of stingrays (Dasyatidae).

features

This ray can reach a diameter of up to 1.5 m. The almost circular body is covered with dark spots that can fade with age or dissolve completely. The whip-shaped tail is almost twice as long as the actual body and, from the clearly visible sting, is much darker than the rest of the fish.

distribution

The Indo-Australian spotted ray occurs from the Red Sea to French Polynesia and as far as southern Japan . It is found at a depth of 0.3 to 75 meters and lives in sandy and muddy lagoons and deltas . It can also be found near the reef and on outer slopes close to the reef.

Way of life

It feeds on shrimp , crabs , mollusks , fish and jellyfish .

After a gestation period of one year, 1 to 5 young are born.
