history

First location of the Lohne industrial museum

The Lohne industrial museum was founded in 1987 by the then mayor of the city of Lohne, Helmut Göttke-Krogmann . The exhibits were initially housed in what is now the day care center behind the Gertrude School. Initially the city of Lohne was responsible for this. Until 2000 there was no space in the building for more than one main exhibition.

The new building near the Lohner train station, in which the Lohne industrial museum is located today, was opened in 2000. The building cost three million DM, another 1.2 million DM were used for the equipment. The new museum building and the equipment were financed by the city of Lohne, the EU and private sponsors, especially from the ranks of the Lohner entrepreneurs. In 2003, the museum's magazine was also set up in the Brockdorf district of Lohner . The industrial museum is supported by an association subsidized by the city of Lohne.

In 2001 the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung awarded the Lohne industrial museum a commendation for the special price for redesign as part of the museum award of the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung.

Since 2010, the Lohne Industrial Museum has been a station on the Route of Industrial Culture in the northwest , a section of the European Route of Industrial Culture .
