In today's Brockdorf, the family of the Counts of Calvelage built a castle that was first mentioned in the late 11th century. The village built around the castle took on the name Calvelage or Kalvelage. The counts of Calvelage laid the late 12th century their residence in the Moorbach lowland Vechtas . They later changed their gender name to Counts of Ravensberg and moved their domain to the Ravensberger Land .

At the site of the old Kalvelage castle, the Querlenburg emerged, a word that, according to Carl Heinrich Nieberding , is said to have originated from “Calvelagenburg” via “Calvellenburg”. There is evidence of a 115 hectare farm site here for 1290, which was probably only expanded into a castle in 1542, which changed hands several times: After the Bernefuer family, the lords of Dorgelo and von Jemgum (descendants of the Jemgum chief Ewo Erikes) and the counts lived there von Galen 's castle.

Before the first school was built in 1674, Calvelage / Brockdorf consisted of a collection of scattered courtyards and hiring houses . Then a village center developed east of the Querlenburg .

During the existence of the glory of Dinklage from 1672 to 1827 Brockdorf, as the peasants now called themselves, was subject to the secular jurisdiction of the Counts of Galen as lords of the glory of Dinklage. The parish of Lohne was already responsible for church affairs. It was not until 1837 that Brockdorf was also responsible for secular questions.

In 1856 Brockdorf was divided into Brockdorf I and Brockdorf II. The boundary of the two parts formed of Mühlener (also Mühlebachstrasse Trenkampsbach called), said Brockdorf I northeast and Brockdorff- II (also called small Brockdorf) southwest of the stream are.

In 1953 a church was completed in Brockdorf on a piece of land donated by the Counts of Galen. It was consecrated to St. Maria Goretti . Relics of the saints were set into the stone during the altar conscription.

Brockdorf is traditionally shaped by agriculture. On the low-lying, moist quarry land in the Dinklager basin , from which Brockdorf owes its name, cattle have been farmed for centuries. The farmers are known nationwide for their goose breeding, which also made possible the industrialization of Lohnes in the 19th century, which began with the production of nibs. In the north of Brockdorf, on both sides of Landesstraße 845 (the feeder to the Lohne / Dinklage junction of the A 1 ), a large number of businesses have settled.

There is a wind farm in the extreme southwest of Brockdorf. Of the seven wind turbines built close together next to the motorway, three are located in the area of the city of Lohne, three in the extreme southeast of the city of Dinklage and one on the western edge of the Steinfeld community .
