The infantry work Im Fang (army designation A 1748) was a defensive position of the Swiss army . It is located near the hamlet Im Fang in the Swiss municipality of Jaun .

history

The 3rd Division of the 1st Army Corps was the forerunner in the central area of activity of the later Reduit Brigade 21 during active service . On the basis of Operation Order 13 of July 7, 1940, she continued the Reduit Front west of the 2nd Division .

From 1941, the 7th Mountain Infantry Regiment formed the “Kampfgruppe Jaun” with the task of blocking the Jauntal axis from Broc and the axis from the Schwarzsee over the Euschels to Jaun and to prevent an advance on the Jaunpass .

The "Kampfgruppe Jaun" comprised the following units: Staff Geb Inf Rgt 7, Geb Füs Bat 14, Geb Füs Bat 16, Füs Bat 3, Ter Bat 123, Rdf Kp 31, Staff F Hb Rgt 22, F Art Abt 2, F Hb Abbot 44, Sap Kp III / 1

In the Jaunbachtal ( French: Vallée de la Jogne ) four locking points were set up: the first was at Broc , the second was “La Tsintre”, the third “Im Fang” and the fourth “Les Tosses”.

First, the narrow streets and bridges between Broc and Charmey were provided with tank obstacles and explosive objects . After moving into the positions, construction of the reinforcements in the area began. The excavation was carried out by the troops and blasting and engineering structures by civil construction companies.

The deployment concept along the advance axes was mostly the same for the 1st division: security element / main barrier at the reduit border / barriers in the depths / artillery support.

The deployment concept for the Im Fang lock was as follows:

axis Fuse element Main lock Lock in the depth Artillery support
Bulle-Jaunpass: Narrow by Broc (street barricades, explosive objects) La Tsintre In the catch Jaunpass

The main work has three weapon positions. Each was armed with a bunkered machine gun 1911 ( Mg 11 ) and a bunkered light machine gun 1925 ( Lmg 25 ). The weapon positions are connected to one another underground. The main plant still has an observation casemate that points to the west (enemy direction).

From the summer of 1941, the main plant also housed the command post of Geb Inf Rgt 7 in the event of war.

To secure the main plant, a secondary plant (A 1747) has been built on the opposite side. This had a Mg 11 and an Lmg 25.
