Life
Inga Sæland is a lawyer with a BA in law from the University of Iceland (2016) and previously studied political science . She was inspired to found the Flokkur fólksins party in 2016 because of her visual impairment . The aim of her party, which is described as populist in the media , is, according to the statutes, the fight against “injustice, discrimination, lawlessness and poverty”. Inga Sæland has subsequently distanced herself as “poorly worded” from comments she made on Facebook in March 2017, for which she was accused of xenophobia . She describes the handling of refugees in Iceland as "cruel" and she has asked for more funds for refugee aid.
In the general election on October 28, 2017 , she was elected as the top candidate of her party for the constituency of Reykjavík-Süd in the Icelandic parliament Althing . As of the beginning of 2018, she is the deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee for commercial affairs and a member of the Icelandic delegation in the West Nordic Council .
In 2007 she was a participant in the Icelandic edition of the casting show The X-Factor .
