Athletic career

For the football season 1987/88 1. FC Magdeburg nominated Hermanns as a defender for its junior league team. Although he also belonged to the junior squad of the 1988/89 season, he was used in March 1989 in two point games of the first team in the GDR league. On matchday 16 he was substituted on for midfielder Wolfgang Steinbach in the 85th minute , and a week later he played 31 minutes for defender Frank Cebulla .

At the beginning of the 1989/90 season, Hermanns moved to the second division Motor Schönebeck together with his teammate Andreas Brinkmann . This led him in his squad as a striker. In 1990 Hermanns took advantage of the elimination of the inner-German border and joined the Lower Saxony league club Kickers Emden . With him he rose to the amateur league in his first season. Hermanns stayed with the Kickers until 2003, after which he played for a year with neighboring SuS Emden .

In 2004 Hermanns returned to the Magdeburg region to play again at the age of 33 in the Association League Saxony-Anhalt for TSV Völpke . Even with TSV, Hermanns rose to the amateur league after just one year - but only for one year. In the league season he was team captain as a defender and played 27 games. In 2008 he returned to Emden and has since played in the senior team of SuS Emden.
