Ingolf Kühn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ingolf Kühn (* 1967 in Menden ) is a German biologist and professor of macroecology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (since 2014) and in the Department of Biocenosis Research at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ in Halle (Saale) .

Scientific career

Ingolf Kühn studied biology and geography at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and the Ruhr-Universität Bochum . In 2000 he received his doctorate in biology from the Ruhr University Bochum under Henning Haeupler .

Research activity

Kühn's research focus is on the effects of global change , particularly biological invasions on natural systems. Furthermore, he investigates the distribution patterns of plants and their biological characteristics depending on environmental factors. For this purpose also developed new statistical analysis methods. He is the spokesman for the Integrated Project New Ecosystems at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research. Kühn is one of the most cited scientists in his field worldwide and is the editor of the international journal NeoBiota . In 2010, he received a call to the Chair of Landscape Ecology and Vegetation Science of the University of Hohenheim , which he declined. He is a member of the German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig .
