Ingrid Dietrich

Ingrid Dietrich (born March 13, 1944 in Thuringia ) is a professor emeritus for general education and intercultural education at the Heidelberg University of Education .

Life

She was the youngest of five children in a family of teachers. Before they started school, the family moved to Dortmund . After graduating from high school, she studied Romance languages, German , philosophy and education in Münster , Munich and Montpellier . In 1969 she passed the first state examination in philology for teaching at the grammar school and the second state examination at the state district seminar in Bielefeld in 1971.

In Dortmund, she did her doctorate at the Pädagogische Hochschule Ruhr in 1974 after working as a research assistant for school pedagogy on the subject of "communication and participation in foreign language teaching" in an interdisciplinary didactic work.

At the University of Duisburg she worked in the educational science department for 18 years . Her focus was language teaching for migrants . At the same time, she accompanied the beginnings of German Freinet pedagogy and worked with regional groups of Freinet pedagogues.

In 1984 she completed her habilitation at the University of Duisburg and was appointed adjunct professor in 1992.

From 1993 she taught general and intercultural pedagogy at the Heidelberg University of Education. She founded the "Intercultural Competence Center" together with Sylvia Selke, which she will continue to manage after her retirement in 2009.

She is the representative for intercultural education and responsible for the exchange with the Chilean partner university "Instituto Profesional Alemán Wilhelm von Humboldt" in Santiago .

Research projects

Remedial classes in small groups for secondary school students with a migrant background - May 2006 to December 2009, intercultural learning support in primary school - October 2006 to July 2009; Integration through qualification. Promotion of young repatriates at secondary schools - October 2003 to February 2006 and project for information, communication and cooperation with immigrant parents - March 1995 to December 1996.
