Ingrid Psimmas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ingrid Psimmas (born January 15, 1945 in Berlin ; † June 14, 2009 there ) was a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

Psimmas was a truck driver by profession. From 1986 to 1990 she was one of the first Bavarian state parliament members of the Greens, from April 1989 she was a member of the state parliament presidium as secretary.

She was the first openly lesbian member of the state parliament in Bavaria and, against strong opposition in the state parliament, campaigned in particular for women's rights and the equality of lesbians and gays . As a result of her commitment to combating violence against women, Psimmas found herself exposed to repeated verbal attacks from ranks of the CSU at a session of the state parliament in December 1986 , which aimed in particular at her disparagement due to her gender representation as a woman , which was not adapted to role expectations . The resulting solidarity of women represented in the state parliament across party lines was in the memory of the Green MP Margarete Bause a “milestone against the Chauvi culture prevailing in the state parliament at the time” .

Aside from her work in the context of party politics, Ingrid Psimmas was a long-time co-wife, supporter and active member of the Regensburg Women's Center.
