The Ingstetter Weiher is a pond created in the 1930s in the valley of the Schwarzbach north of the 2019 state road ( Krumbach - Weißenhorn ) between Deisenhausen and Ingstetten in the Unterroggenburger Wald ( community-free area in the Neu-Ulm district ).
history
Until 1982
The Ingstetter Weiher was originally created as a fish pond in the 1930s in order to be able to supply the population with protein. In the Schwarzbach catchment area, the pond contributes to flood protection as a retention basin.
In the 1960s and 1970s, it was used as a swimming lake. With the expansion of the Oberrieder Weiher near Breitenthal in the district of Günzburg to a local recreation area, the Ingstetter Weiher slowly lost its attractiveness as a bathing lake and was finally placed under protection as a large natural monument .
Natural monument
Since August 1982 the lake, the reed beds surrounding it and silting zones in the bank area as well as the adjoining alder and willow stocks have been protected as an extensive natural monument. The natural monument has a size of approximately 4.6 ha, with the water surface itself taking up approximately 3.5 ha. The pond, which is drained every winter, has an almost closed reed belt. After the water was placed under protection, artificial islands were created in the pond in order to lengthen the ecologically important shoreline and to create breeding sites and habitats protected from enemies for birds and other animals. The Ingstetter Weiher has the largest population of the common toad in the Neu-Ulm district.
