The Institute for Urban Development Berlin ( ISB ) and the Institute for Urban Development and Housing Munich ( ISW ) are advanced training institutes of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL).

history

Institute for Urban Development Berlin (ISB)

The Institute for Urban Development Berlin (ISB) was founded in 1961 under the sponsorship of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL) . Stephan Mitschang has been the director of the institute since April 2005, and he holds a chair for the subject area “Urban Development and Settlement - Local, Regional and State Planning” at the Technical University of Berlin .

Institute for Urban Development and Housing Munich (ISW)

The Institute for Urban Development and Housing Munich (ISW) was founded in the autumn of 1960 on the occasion of the introduction of the Federal Building Act. It began its work in the spring of 1961 under the direction of Johannes Göderitz . From 1962 to 1991 Gerd Albers was head of the city and from 1992 to 1994 a. D. Uli Zech the ISW. From 1995 to 2010 Ingrid Krau was director of the institute. Alain Thierstein headed the institute from June 1, 2010 until the end of 2015. Since January 1, 2016, Julian Wékel has been the director of the institute and holds a professorship in the Department of Architecture “Designing and Urban Planning” at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Advanced training

The advanced training institutes of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL) - the Institute for Urban Development Berlin (ISB) and the Institute for Urban Development and Housing Munich (ISW) - are in accordance with the statutes with the training and further education of experts in public administration (federal, state , Municipalities) and - in Berlin since 1964 - also entrusted by trainee lawyers in the higher civil service in the areas of urban development, spatial planning and regional planning , environmental protection and the associated specialist areas. The institutes offer around 70 specialist conferences, specialist seminars, workshops and excursions on current topics in urban development , urban planning , urban and regional planning and the relevant areas of law. From different perspectives, important individual topics are considered integratively and in their interactions.

The focus here is on two main groups of knowledge transfer:

  • Orientation knowledge that relates science, theory and social contexts to the problems of urban planning
  • Practical knowledge that conveys concrete tips for dealing with everyday problems.

The two areas penetrate each other.

Legal trainee course

Since 1964, the Berlin Institute for Urban Development has been holding central specialist courses regularly in spring and autumn as part of the technical clerkship. The main task of the courses is to consolidate the professional competence of the trainee lawyers of the higher technical administration service in the fields of urban planning, urban construction, surveying and landscape planning / landscape maintenance in the interest of the future activities of the public administration through exercises, lectures, visits and technical discussions with practitioners and interdisciplinary To impart knowledge.

Board of Trustees

The institutes each have their own board of trustees.
