Integrin β-2 (synonym CD18 ) is a surface protein from the group of integrins .

properties

CD18 binds to integrin α-D , integrin α-L , integrin α-M or integrin α-X and thus forms various heterodimers . It is made by leukocytes . As a heterodimer with integrin α-L (synonym CD11a) it is referred to as LFA-1 and binds to ICAM 1 to 4. Bound to ICAM3, α-L / β-2 induces phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils by macrophages . As a heterodimer with integrin α-M (synonym CD11b , together called macrophage-1 antigen ) or integrin α-X (synonym CD11c ), receptors for iC3b of the complement system and for fibrinogen arise . In the case of α-M / β-2, there is a binding to the peptides P1 and P2 of the γ chain of fibrinogen. α-M / β-2 is also a receptor for factor X . In the case of α-X / β-2, there is a binding to the sequence GPR in the α chain of the fibrinogen. α-X / β-2 is a receptor for ICAM 3 and VCAM1 . CD18 is involved in the cytotoxicity of NK cells . It is involved in cell adhesion and leukodiapedesis of leukocytes. CD18 is glycosylated and phosphorylated .

Integrin β-2 binds to FHL2 , GNB2L1 , ICAM-1 and PSCD1 , among others .
