Inter-Pathé
Inter-Pathé is a DVD label that has been operated by aberle-media GmbH since 2010. Interpathe or Interpathé or Inter Pathé are and were often known as further spellings of the brand.
history
In 1957 Paul Schmitt from Frankfurt founded Paul Schmitt GmbH & Co KG in Frankfurt-Höchst , which was later relocated to Glashütten / Taunus . The seat was Bolongarostraße 141. At that time, the company dealt with the emerging narrow films for home use and distribution and the like. a. also products from Revue to Neckermann. In the first few years, only narrow film projectors were sold that were imported from the USA . At the beginning the label "INTERN-FILM" was used, later the label "Inter-Pathé" was founded in cooperation with Pathé in France. As early as the mid-1960s, the company was selling films from the Columbia , Ken Films and Pathé programs, with only the Normal 8 format being sold predominantly . One of the first Normal-8 film titles was "The Birth of a Child", which had a playing time of around 4 minutes. A total of 4,000 pieces were sold for 29.95–49.95 DM.
With the emergence of the Super 8 film , the medium Normal 8 took a back seat, from 1973 not only films from the company's own program, but also from the “marketing-film” program. "INTERN-FILM" and "PATHÉ-FILM" merged to form "INTER-PATHÉ". The main focus in the first catalogs were predominantly old newsreels, contemporary historical documents and older German feature films, some of which were of astonishingly good quality.
In 1975 "Inter-Pathé" was reinforced by films from the American "Ken Films" program, which mainly released films from 20th Century Fox and American International . The American "Ken Films" Super 8 versions were given the German tone in Germany. There was a big problem: The German sound had to be made or cut afterwards for the shortened Super 8 version. They didn't try too hard, which was clearly noticeable in some of the cut versions. Often the German tone did not match the shortened original at all (people speak, although no one speaks in the film). Due to the audio transfer, an asynchronicity was often noticeable in some of the edited versions, so that the edited versions of "Inter-Pathé" quickly had a bad reputation.
From 1975 until the 1980s, Paul Schmitt intensified the collaboration with the NWDF boss Erich J. A. Pietrek . The then Inter-Pathé published several old cinema programs, u. a. "Fat and goofy as craftsmen", "Fat and goofy in revenge is cute" or "Fat and goofy have long legs". In 1989, the head of the Northwest German Film Distribution Company died and transferred the exploitation rights to the Inter-Pathé company or its successor.
In 1976 Inter-Pathé dubbed all episodes of the cartoon butcher series " Superman " in German. The superhero "Superman" was voiced by Ralf Steuer Nagel, who in 2001 as a TV translator to the dismay of the "11 September" (Sat.1) acted or the CNN news with a report on the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 for n-tv commented in German. Some episodes were also dubbed in Turkish, but these are lost. The series was evaluated on Super 8, 16mm and on VHS . At Christmas 2017, the series appeared for the first time in a restored version on DVD .
In 1977/78 "Inter-Pathé" also took over the films from the American MGM - Super 8 program. In contrast to the bad "Ken Films" films, all MGM cut versions had already been Germanized in the USA, because there you cut the German sound directly to the master, as was also the case with films from the UFA program.
“Inter-Pathé” also had good quality films in its program, both in a 120 m version and in full length. These were, for example, the classics “Before the New Day”, “African Queen” and “The Last Train from Gun-Hill”. There were also some films with Elvis Presley . It should also be noted that some films were released under alternative titles, such as B. the Jerry Lewis title "At War With The Army" under the title " The Regiment Idiot ".
At the beginning of the 1980s there were already the first discounts on the purchase of a Super 8 cut version, and it was further reduced: When "Inter-Pathé" noticed their losses in the Super 8 sale of the poor 120 m cut frames, there were there is already a strong discount for all films with the order numbers BF and MGM (120 m instead of 129.00 / 149.00 DM only 50.00 DM).
Even so, there were still new releases of the BF and MGM films. The last catalog in 1982 included films such as “Firebird Company”, “At the Turning Point” and “Northwest Passage”. These last new releases no longer had the bad sound problems. “Inter-Pathé” even published the MGM three-part series “The Formula”.
"Inter-Pathé" continued to publish their lists until 1997 - each cut version was only 29.95 DM, and there were real pearls that are still in great demand among collectors today, for example the two-part cut versions " Singin 'In The Rain "And" One bride for seven brothers ". The one-piece “ The Rocky Horror Picture Show ”, which was also available at UFA , should not be forgotten either . The Inter-Pathé Super 8 copy, which has been the highest paid for so far, went down in Super 8 eBay history in 2006, because “ The Wizard of Oz ” (120 m, bw, German magnetic sound) was sold for 329.00 Euros auctioned.
The video age
From 1979 Inter-Pathé also published various video films in numerous formats, until it was later switched to VHS . The range included hundreds of films, mostly the old newsreels. It was also active as a wholesaler and sold UFA and Taurus video as well as Kinowelt titles.
As early as 1982, Inter-Pathé worked with numerous "third-party VHS providers", including a. with the VHS label "Liliput", which mainly sold children's programs. A total of over 300 children's programs were brought out with TELEPICTURE Video-Produktions und Vertriebs GmbH, based in Würzburg.
From 1989 to 1992 Inter-Pathé worked with several publishers, including a. with the publishers GVK, Heitz & Höffkes . The latter collaboration ended in litigation.
The preliminary end
In 2007 the temporary end came after Paul Schmitt left the company for reasons of age. Was sold, making the collection (over 12,336 film cans in the format: his son led the sale of remaining stocks continued until 2009, the film collection to the aberle-media GmbH (Christian and Peter Aberle charge) 16 mm and 35 mm ) from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern transported and was archived. In 2014, an Inter-Pathé fan made a calculation that the celluloid collection of Inter-Pathé encloses our globe at least once. According to this, the collection would have a total number of meters of 40,075,000 meters, based on the last complete list of films from March 15, 1997. Paul Schmitt died in Hesse in autumn 2015.
New programs were launched in 2008, including a. “Laurel & Hardy Ultimate Vol. 1” and “Laurel & Hardy Ultimate Vol. 5”, which were available through the Rossmann drugstore chain ; these programs were published under the label "aberle-media". The last publication under "aberle-media" was in December 2010.
Since 2009
In the summer of 2009, the first Inter-Pathé programs were distributed by ems new media AG , which were supplied by aberle-media GmbH (founded by Christian Aberle and Peter Aberle). a. the documentation "2012". After the bankruptcy, the cooperation with 3L Filmverleih GmbH (today 3L Homevideo) was further deepened.
In 2010 "Das alten Dresden" was officially released on DVD, including a. in collaboration with Polar-Film . Later this documentation was also published on Amazon Video restored in HD.
In the spring of 2011, Inter-Pathé published the video program “ Bad Homburg - The summer residence of the Frankfurters”, which was also shown in Bad Homburg aS for the opening ceremony of the old train station in 2013.
In 2011, the Inter-Pathé label published historical film recordings of Frankfurt / Main from 1927, which premiered in February 2017, as part of "Ma (i) nhatta". The cooperation with the arte film editor Nina Goslar turned out to be very successful, the evening received very good press. In 2015, film excerpts from "Old Frankfurt" were shown publicly in the magazine "Planetopia" when the city's history was discussed. It was one of the last issues of “Planetopia”.
Inter-Pathé has had its own channel on YouTube since 2013 . From 2013 to 2015 were more than 50 titles of Inter-Pathé on the platform MyVideo of ProSiebenSat.1 available. In 2015, Inter-Pathé ended its collaboration with ProSiebenSat1 after the video platform was redesigned.
In August 2017, the ARD broadcast film clips on the subject of " Elvis Presley " in the weekly BRISANT magazine . a. Inter-Pathé licensed.
In the summer of 2017, the Inter-Pathé DVD program “The Jungle Book Edition” was awarded the orange thumb by the Baden-Württemberg media center.
