InterCity Bornholm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The InterCity Bornholm was a DSB - Intercity train connection from Copenhagen Central Station to Ystad in Sweden . The train stopped at Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport as well as in Svedala and Skurup and ended in Ystad 200 meters from the ferry terminal. The arrival of the train was coordinated with the departure of the high-speed ferry to Rønne on Bornholm , so that it was possible to transfer directly to the ferry.

The Intercity Bornholm was associated with the opening of the Öresund bridge introduced in 2000, were able to communicate with the trains without the use of ferries directly between Denmark and Sweden.

Vehicle material

Initially the diesel-powered MF (IC3) series was used. After a track connection was electrified in Fosie , a district of Malmö , the electric Øresund train units of the ET series could be used, which had a higher seating capacity and could run under the Swedish overhead line.

The trains departed several times a day from Copenhagen Central Station, mostly from platform 26, which is about 5 to 10 minutes' walk from the other platforms. They ran all year round. Reinforcement was particularly necessary in spring and early summer when tens of thousands of school children from all over Denmark drove to Bornholm.

In terms of tariffs, the InterCity Bornholm was a corridor train , as DSB only sold tickets and reservations to / from Rønne, despite serving the Swedish stops in Svedala and Skurup.

Cessation of operations

Due to the ferry agreement on the ferry service to Bornholm from 2014, the political side decided to discontinue the connection from the 2017/18 timetable change. The last departure of InterCity Bornholm took place on December 9, 2017.

It is still possible to buy a DSB ticket for the entire journey from Copenhagen H to Rønne. Instead of the direct train, the normal Øresund train goes to Malmö (Malmö C, Triangle or Hyllie stations), from where the local Pågatåg goes to Ystad. This has increased the travel time from Ystad to Copenhagen by around six minutes and from Copenhagen to Ystad by a little more than half an hour.
