The Swedish three-part electric multiple unit SJ X31K was built by Adtranz , now Bombardier , as Crusalis Contessa for Statens Järnvägar (SJ). The code letter K means that the multiple units are adapted for traffic to and in Denmark. In Denmark the train has the series designation ET and is used by the operator Öresundståg .

Technical specifications

The multiple units are around 79 meters long and weigh around 156 tons when empty. Each train consists of two driven end and a non-driving intermediate car that carries the pantograph and the roof of the high-voltage equipment and comprises a total of 229 seats, of which 20 seats in the 1st class 31 as well as folding seats .

The car bodies are 2.97 m wide and are made of maintenance-free stainless steel. They have a light gray color to match the appearance of the Danish aluminum railcars. The front sides are black due to the wide rubber beads. Up to five units can be coupled together and driven in multiple units . The front doors with the driver's cab can be swiveled to the side so that there is free passage through the entire train. This is a safety requirement when driving through the Drogden tunnel as part of the Øresund connection . Further safety requirements are the emergency brake override , a basic requirement for trains on the Öresund connection and in the Malmö city tunnel .

Drive and drive

The electric multiple unit feeds electricity back into the overhead line during regenerative braking. The maximum speed is 180 km / h. For the different electrical systems in Sweden and Denmark, the trains can be operated with the Swedish system 15 kV 16⅔ Hz as well as with the Danish system 25 kV 50 Hz. Both countries have different signaling systems. Switching between the two systems takes place while driving on Peberholm .

Eight of the twelve axles of the multiple unit are driven by asynchronous motors, which leads to good acceleration values with a maximum output of 2,300 kW. The intermediate car only has running bogies. Each train cost 87 million crowns (price level 2009). The motor drive frame has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and is equipped with two drive motors. Disc brakes are mounted on the wheel disks of the motor bogies . Three of the four motor bogies also have a magnetic rail brake .

Interior decoration

Some of the sets that Statens Järnvägar used as Intercity between Gothenburg and Copenhagen until 2009 had a different interior design until 2009. They were brought back to the Öresund train standard when SJ handed over the trains to Öresundståg AB .

use

The multiple units are mainly used in Öresundståg traffic in the relationship between Copenhagen and Malmö and also to Helsingör , Ängelholm , Gothenburg, Hässleholm , Kalmar and Karlskrona . The X31 also operates as an InterCity train on the Västkustbanan under the direction of Statens Järnvägar (SJ). About half of the trains are owned by Danske Statsbaner (DSB) and are run under the Danish series designation DSB ET , the rest is operated by Öresund AB for its Swedish provincial transport company.

Since March 20, 2006, the multiple units have been running in triple traction across the Öresund.

DSB Øresund (until 11 December 2011 DSB First ) ordered another ten train sets in the fall of 2008, another eleven additional trains were (by the Swedish provincial transport company in December 2011 Swedish svenska länstrafikbolag ) commissioned. The first 67 trains were built by Kalmar Verkstad . After the plant in Kalmar was closed , the other trains were manufactured in Germany .

In the three-car train, each car has its own number, with the final digits matching: 4301 has a driver's cab, 4701 is the intermediate car and 4501 has a driver's cab and a first-class compartment.

In 2010 the trains were divided between the following operating companies:

  • DSB: 4301, 4303, 4305, 4306, 4308, 4309, 4311-4321, 4328, 4337-4342, 4391-4400
  • Skånet Nahrungsmittel: 4302, 4304, 4307, 4310, 4322-4327, 4329, 4350-4362, 4366, 4367, 4369-4379
  • Kalmar Läns Trafik: 4330, 4331
  • Statens Järnvägar: 4332–4336
  • Hallandstrafik: 4363–4365
  • Länstagraph Kronoberg (LTK): 4368, 4380-4382
  • Transitio : 4383, 4384 (for LTK)
  • Transitio: 4385, 4386
  • Transitio: 4387–4390 (for Skånet Nahrungsmittel)

The re-ordered multiple units were delivered to Transitio:

  • 4401–4403 (for Västtågen)
  • 4404–4411 (for Øresund traffic)

In 2011, SJ sold five X31 multiple units to Skånetrafik and Hallandstrafik after a lawsuit .

Since 2017 the trains at Swedtrac have been modernized internally and externally. 22 trains are to be renewed annually.
