InterRed is a commercial content management system from the manufacturer InterRed GmbH in Siegen . It is both print content management system and web and enterprise content management system.

history

InterRed can be used for the cross-media publication of content in various media (multi-channel publishing). On a technical level, the content, layout and structure are stored separately in a central, database-based system. Version 1.0 came on the market in 1997. As a rule, new versions appear annually. Version 18 (2019) is currently on the market.

In addition to product development, InterRed GmbH conducts basic research in the areas of data management , knowledge management (in particular, knowledge retrieval based on AI) and web analysis in cooperation with the University of Siegen .

Functions

The InterRed system enables media-neutral data storage . This serves as the basis for the editorial and creative production of print and digital media from one system. The work with the InterRed system is browser-based. In addition to this user interface, there is also the option of maintaining content using DTP software such as Adobe InDesign , or a word processor (e.g. Microsoft Word ). This is a bidirectional data exchange that is initiated in the InterRed system. The use of Adobe InDesign also enables the creative processing of print products. Due to the bidirectionality, the appearance in the DTP program can be edited and managed centrally in InterRed.

technical basics

InterRed uses a Linux server as the basis . The InterRed system is based on a four-layer publishing / staging architecture (vertical scaling ), consisting of the layers database , application , publishing and distribution . Individual components of the multi-layer architecture can be scaled horizontally using dedicated or virtual servers.

InterRed uses a MySQL database for data storage . Existing databases can be linked. Replication logic recognizes changes in external sources and processes them. XML interface, XML replicator, SOAP interface and JDBC / ODBC interface enable synchronous and asynchronous data exchange.

Cross-media use is made possible through the use of InterRed TXML, a typographical exchange format. Contents are saved in this format in the InterRed system and made available in various applications (Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign etc.) and formats (website, PDF, RSS etc.). The conversion of the data is carried out by the InterRed TXML engine.

Areas of application

The InterRed editorial system is used to create print products (e.g. magazines, newspapers, catalogs, business reports) and digital media (e.g. web, apps for smartphones and tablets) with the same system.
