International Premier Tennis League

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) was an international tennis league that was played annually from 2014 to 2016.

Emergence

The IPTL was developed by Mahesh Bhupathi , who was based on the Indian Cricket League Indian Premier League . The league should especially serve the increased interest in tennis in Asia. On March 2, 2014, an entry draft took place in Dubai , in which a total of 28 players were drawn from over 80 players for the four participating teams. For better marketing, Bhupathi mainly tried to find well-known sizes from the active field, but also from the group of former tennis greats. In the first event, Novak Đoković and Serena Williams, the current world ranking leaders took part, supplemented by Roger Federer , Andy Murray and Marija Sharapova , among others . Promises from former professionals came from Pete Sampras , Andre Agassi and Carlos Moyá , among others .

Due to financial difficulties, the league was discontinued after 2015. In the meantime, the IPTL no longer has a website.

mode

When the league was first held, four countries took part, each with a team in the form of a franchise . These included the United Arab Emirates , India , Singapore and the Philippines . All four teams played against each other in a round robin mode . Each encounter consisted of five games, each of which consisted of only one sentence. The set was won with six games won, with a 5-5 tie a tie-break was played until seven. The five games were divided into the following formats:

Lot format
1 Men's singles
2 Ladies singles
3 Men's doubles
4th Mixed
5 Past Champions -single

For each individual game in the set played, a team received one point. The team that had won the most points in the end won the game. The team that had won the most individual games in the entire encounter received four additional points. Should the losing team reach at least 20 points, they received a bonus of two points. With a score of ten to 20 points, the team received at least one point.

In each of the five games, a team could announce a so-called Power Point . The subsequent rally counted twice. If there was a tie at the end of the overall meeting, a shoot-out was played between the players in the men's singles. The first player to reach seven points first decided the match in favor of his team.
