International photography festival F / STOP

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Festival for Photography f / stop is a festival for contemporary artistic photography organized by the Center for Contemporary Photography Leipzig eV (ZZF) and has been taking place annually in Leipzig since 2007 on various topics . After the festival was restructured in 2011, f / stop has taken place every 2 years since 2012.

Conception

Every two years f / stop offers a podium for artistic, curatorial and scientific contributions that deal with socio-politically relevant topics based on the means and possibilities of photography. The focus is on four exhibitions designed by guest curators, which, in close connection with the accompanying program and educational work, form the core of f / stop and approach the festival theme from different perspectives.

background

The festival is sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Photography Leipzig eV (ZZF) , which was founded in 2006 by Kristin Dittrich and 15 other cultural workers. From 2007 to 2010 f / stop took place under the direction of Kristin Dittrich. In 2011 the content structure and profile of the festival were redesigned under the direction of Christin Krause and Thilo Scheffler.

Events

In 2009, a symposium on the subject of "Curating Photography - dealing with contemporary photography in art exhibitions" took place for the first time within the photography festival. In 2010 the festival ran parallel to the Leipzig Jazz Days . The series of events is financially supported by the City of Leipzig.

As part of the 5th f / stop in 2012, the symposium "Beyond the factual: Generate truth!" with contributions by Florian Ebner , Nora Sternfeld , Antje Krause-Wahl and Annegret Richter.

The events are accompanied by exhibition catalogs. The 2007 festival catalog designed by David Voss was awarded the Saxon State Prize for Design in the Communication Design category (second prize) and was nominated for the 2009 Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Previous years

2009

In 2009 the 3rd Festival for Photography f / stop tried to answer the title "From here, where?" and visually dealt with different, clashing realities, wishes and longings. In 2009, Kristin Dittrich was the artistic director.

2010

In 2010, the theme of f / stop "In the Hidden: 5 pm – 5 am" revolved around images of human existence and a sensitized perception of one's own surroundings and thoughts that was changed by evening and night hours. Kristin Dittrich curated the 4th edition of the festival.

2012

Under the title "The History of Now", the 5th Festival for Photography f / stop dealt with the steadily growing flood of images and the need to critically question the conditions of visual information conveyance. In 2012 the festival was curated by Christin Krause and Thilo Scheffler.

2014

f / stop 2014 was dedicated to the title "Get Lucky!" the visual phenomena of the achievement society and its chronic compulsion to be happy. The 6th festival edition was curated by Christin Krause and Thilo Scheffler.

2016

In 2016 the 7th Festival for Photography f / stop takes place from June 25th to July 3rd in Leipzig under the curatorial direction of the Spector Books publishers Anne König and Jan Wenzel. Under the title "the end of the world as we know it, is the beginning of a world we do not know" f / stop looks back at the history of reportage and asks which media forms of representation are suitable today, from a world that has become confusing to tell.

In a historical digression, reports about Leipzig published around the world - recorded by Robert Capa , Gerda Taro , Lee Miller and Margaret Bourke-White - are shown on displays in the urban space and thus returned to their place of origin (Leipzig City Hall, “Capa-Haus” etc.) .
