Florian Ebner

Florian Ebner (* 1970 in Regensburg ) is a German art historian , head of the photographic collection of the Folkwang Museum in Essen since 2012 and head of the photography department at the Center Pompidou in Paris since July 1, 2017 .

Florian Ebner studied photography at the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles as well as art history, history and Romance studies in Bochum . In 2008/09 he temporarily headed the photographic collection of the Berlinische Galerie . Since 2009 he has been director of the Museum of Photography in Braunschweig . In 2012 he succeeded Ute Eskildsen in Essen.

His exhibition “Cairo. Open City ”in the Folkwang Museum was selected for the 2013 exhibition by the German section of the international art critic association.

In 2014 Ebner was commissioned to curate the German pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia 2015. He selected the artists Olaf Nicolai , Hito Steyerl , Tobias Zielony and the artist couple Jasmina Metwaly and Philip Rizk .
