The International Radio Serbia ( Serbian Međunarodni radio Srbija ) was the foreign radio broadcaster of the Republic of Serbia and belonged to the state broadcasting company Radio-Televizija Srbije .

history

The station's predecessor organization was Radio Belgrade . This took up its broadcasts during the Yugoslav monarchy , in March 1936. Its establishment was a reaction to the increase in propaganda broadcasts from the fascist- ruled countries of Europe . During the occupation of Serbia by German troops from 1941 on, Radio Free Yugoslavia continued broadcasting in the tradition of Radio Belgrade . The station's target group is no longer Yugoslavs abroad, but those who stayed at home and who have to live under foreign rule. The station's exile location was in the Russian city ​​of Ufa in the Urals . After the war, broadcasts abroad were resumed from Belgrade and Radio Belgrade was renamed Radio Yugoslavia . It continued to broadcast under this name even after the fall of the real socialist regime and the accompanying collapse of Yugoslavia . The name was changed to Voice of Serbia (Serbian: Glas Srbije ) only in the course of the dissolution of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro , from 2012 to 2015 the program was broadcast under its current name.

Broadcast service

International Radio Serbia broadcast in Serbian , French , German , English , Russian , Spanish , Arabic , Albanian , Greek , Bulgarian , Italian , Hungarian and Chinese . The short-wave transmission system of the International Radio Serbia, which was used until recently, was located in Jabanuša near Bijeljina on Bosnian territory. On July 31, 2015, International Radio Serbia was completely shut down following a decision by the Serbian government.
