Ion Vélez Martínez (born February 17, 1985 in Tafalla ) is a Spanish football player who is under contract with the Spanish second division club Deportivo Alavés .

Player career

Ion Vélez made the jump to the second team of the Primera División representative Athletic Bilbao via the stations Peña Sport and CD Baskonia . There he came, however, in his first season hardly to the train, so that he was loaned to the third division club Barakaldo CF in the 2006/07 season . There he promptly became a regular player and ensured with 12 goals this season that he was also included in the first team of Athletic at the beginning of the next season . He played his first game on August 26, 2007 against CA Osasuna .

Still, he could rarely convince with his performance and has been the second half of the season 2007/08 again awarded in the second division, this time at Hercules CF . After he was able to convince there too, his busiest time began in Bilbao, so he was used on average every second game in the next two seasons. However, he did not score many goals during this time either.

For this reason, he was awarded in the back series of the 2010/11 season to the second division CD Numancia , where he was also a regular, but he did not manage a single goal.

Due to the low number of goals scored in the completed games for a striker, Athletic Bilbao was forced to give up Ion Vélez for good in the summer of 2011. He was thus given to the Spanish second division club FC Girona . In July 2013, Vélez moved to league rivals Deportivo Alavés .
