Iosif Ivanovici
Iosif Ivanovici (* around 1845 in Timişoara , † September 15 . Jul / 28 September greg. Or Sept. 16 jul. / 29. September 1902 greg. In Bucharest , also Ion Ivanovici or Josef Ivanovic ) was a Romanian composer . Ivanovici also worked in Galați and Bucharest as a military bandmaster and was appointed inspector general of the Romanian military bands.
Life
He wrote 350 dances and marches, but only his concert waltz Donauwellen (original title: Valurile Dunării ) achieved great popularity to this day. Ivanovici dedicated it to the young Sarah Fried from Lugoj in 1880 . On the cover of this composition he wrote in German: “Donau Wellen Walzer by Josef Ivanovics, dedicated and written for Fräulein Sarah Fried.” The first edition, published in Bucharest in 1880, was dedicated to Emma Gebauer, the wife of the music publisher Constantin Gebauer. In 1889 the waltz was performed in an orchestration by Emile Waldteufel at the World Exhibition in Paris , and it took the audience by storm.
The waltz Donauwellen has been adapted several times as film music:
- Dishonored (dt .: Dishonored ) (USA 1931, directed by Josef von Sternberg )
- Valurile Dunării (Romania 1959, directed by Liviu Ciulei )
- Father and Daughter (Netherlands / Belgium / Great Britain 2000, directed by Michael Dudok de Wit )
