Iphiaulax impostor is a parasitic living Hautflüglerart from the subfamily Braconinae within the family of braconids (Braconidae).

features

The brackish wasps reach a body length of about 8–9 mm. The head, thorax and antennae are black. The legs are also black, with the rear coxae having a red spot. The abdomen is red. The wings are dark in color. The females have a medium-long, strong laying stinger .

distribution

The brackish wasp species occurs in the Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe. However, it is absent in the British Isles . In the south their distribution area extends to North Africa, in the east to the Far East .

Way of life

The larvae of Iphiaulax impostor develop inside their living and growing host ( koinobionter endoparasitoid ). The brackish wasp species uses wood-boring beetle larvae from the longhorn beetle and jewel beetle family as well as caterpillars from the wood borer family (Cossidae) as hosts . The brackish wasps track down the larvae that develop under the bark of trees. They lay an egg in the larva with the help of their laying spine. The hatched brackish wasp larva develops inside the host larva and leaves the host in the last larval stage to pupate outside .

The hosts include u. a. the following types:
