The Brown Gray Splintbock or Nebula Bock or Brown Gray horned ( Leiopus nebulosus ) is a beetle of the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

description

The beetles are 6 to 10 millimeters long. They are patterned gray-beige and have an unlimited, wide transverse band on the wing covers . The color of the elytra is variable, mostly they are brown at the base, along the seam yellow with brown spots, the end is also yellow with brown spots. In the middle there is a wide yellow transverse band with brown spots. The wing covers are clearly spotted and truncated diagonally at the ends. The pronotum has pointed thorns pointing backwards on the sides behind the middle. The antennae are significantly longer than the body and are colored brown from the third antenna segment.

A similar species is Leiopus punctulatus . Their basic color is black, the transverse ligament and the elytra are white and have black spots.

Occurrence

They are often found on the edges of deciduous forests (especially old beech forests ), mixed coniferous forests and subalpine spruce forests in the lowlands and hilly areas. The species is widespread in the Alps as far as the subalpine zone. The distribution area extends in Central Europe in the north to Denmark , the south of Norway and Finland and the central part of Sweden and the Caucasus . The species is only found locally in the British Isles .

Way of life

The beetles can be found on dry brushwood. The larvae develop in the dry, but not debarked branches and thin trunks of beech , oak , linden , hornbeam and fruit trees. The beetles appear from May to July.
