The variable ram or changeable ram ( Chlorophorus varius ) is a beetle of the longhorn family (Cerambycidae).

description

The beetles are 8 to 14 millimeters long. They are elongated and shaped like a cylinder. The body is similar to that of the common ram, but it is dull and hairy. The beetle has a greenish-yellow body with wasp-like black and yellow banding. The black ram's horn-like stripes are wider and curved. The first drawing is in the shape of a C that is open to the outside. The pronotum and the elytra are equally wide. The antennae and legs are black.

Occurrence

They are common in Eastern and Southern Europe and in Eastern Austria . They are rare in southern Germany . They live on meadows and forest edges in warm areas.

Way of life

The beetles sit on flowering plants. The larvae live in very different deciduous trees , in Eastern Europe even in stems of herbaceous plants (for example yarrow ). Their development takes two to three years.

The larvae eat wood from deciduous trees.
