Iphis (son of Alector)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iphis ( Greek  Ἶφις ), son of Alector , was king of Argos in Greek mythology . He was the father of Eteoklos , the Euadne (or Ianeira ) and the Astynomials (or Laodike ) and the brother of Capaneus . He was a grandson of Anaxagoras and is therefore one of the Anaxagorids.

Iphis revealed to Adrastus how he could get Amphiaraos to take part in the march of the seven against Thebes . All he had to do was give Amphiaraos' wife Eriphyle the belt of Harmonia , who then persuaded her husband.

Since Iphis survived all his children, Sthenelus , the son of his brother Kapaneus and his daughter Euadne, ascended the throne of Argos after his death .
