NHN on the Reiter Alm in the Berchtesgaden Alps not far from the border between Bavaria and the Salzburg region . The shelter is sometimes called the Karl-Merkenschlager-Haus (named after Karl Merkenschlager ) and is located in the municipality of Schneizlreuth in the Berchtesgaden National Park .
