The Stadelhorn is 2286 m , the highest and at the same time striking peaks of the Alm rider . It lies exactly on the border between Bavaria and Salzburg .
The Stadelhorn is a somewhat exposed hiking peak. The summit panoramic view extends from the Untersberg , the Hochkalter and Watzmann over the Leoganger Steinberge and Loferer Steinberge to the Sonntagshorn as well as to large parts of the Lower Saalach Valley . In addition, on a clear day, the Stadelhorn offers a view from the Großer Priel in the east over Dachstein and the Hohe Tauern with Großglockner and Großvenediger to the Zugspitze in the west. At the foot of Stadel horn are located on the Austrian side St. Martin b. Lofer , Lofer and the municipality of Unken , on the Bavarian side the Klausbachtal and the Hintersee .
The normal route to the Stadelhorn over the west ridge begins in the Mayrbergscharte ( 2055 m ) . There are various ways to get there.
Direct approaches:
- over the Loferer Steig from the Austrian side,
- over the Schaflsteig from the Bavarian side (Engert-Alm).
Approaches via the Roßkarscharte and the upper Wagendrischelkar:
- from the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte through the Roßgasse or Steinberggasse,
- from the Hintersee over the Böselsteig.
In contrast to its neighboring summit to the east, the Großer Mühlsturzhorn , the Stadelhorn has little climbing to offer, but the ascent itself requires a head for heights and surefootedness. Only one sport climbing tour through the southwest face is done more often.
