Karl Merkenschlager

Karl Merkenschlager (born April 6, 1885 in Hauslach , Georgensgmünd municipality, † June 10, 1967 in Traunstein ) was a German lawyer.

Career

Merkenschlager studied law at the University of Erlangen and came to Traunstein at the age of 29. During his studies in 1904 he became a member of the Bubenruthia Erlangen fraternity .

After the end of the Second World War, he was acting mayor of the Upper Bavarian city of Traunstein from 1945 to 1946.

The passionate mountaineer was first chairman of the Traunstein section of the German Alpine Club from 1934 to 1949 . At his instigation, the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte was built in the Berchtesgaden Alps in 1938 , which today also bears his name. After his resignation he was appointed honorary chairman of the Traunstein section. His grave is in the Traunstein forest cemetery.
