Ipomoea steerei is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in Mexico and Guatemala .

description

Ipomoea steerei is a twisting , herbaceous or semi- shrub -like climbing plant with relatively coarse stems that are 3 to 4 mm in diameter and are densely hairy with fine silk. The internodes are 6 to 15 cm long. The leaf blades are elliptical to elliptical-egg-shaped, blunt to the front, somewhat wedge-shaped at the base. They are usually traversed by four to six side veins. The underside of the leaf is densely hairy, silky, with adjacent trichomes and covered with papillary growths with lumpy hair. The surface is green, but is sparsely covered with silky trichomes. The leaf stalks are short, 0.8 to 1.5 cm long and have silky hairs.

The inflorescences are little to much flowered (rarely also single flowered) dichasias , which are both shorter and longer than the surrounding leaves and can be a total of about 20 cm long, but are usually shorter. The inflorescence stalks are 1 to 6 cm long and finely hairy; the flower stalks are usually 2 cm long and thickened at the tip. The calyx is leathery and about 1 cm long and hairless. The sepals are unequal, the outer ones are almost circular or ovate and rounded at the tip, they reach a length of 5 to 8 mm; the inner ones are almost circular or egg-shaped, blunt or indented and screwy at the tip, they are about 10 mm long. The crown is red or carmine red, narrowly bell-shaped, hairless on the outside and 5 to 6 cm long. The corolla lobes are flat and rounded. The stamens start near the base of the crown and almost reach the tip. The base of the stamens is hairy bearded. The pistil is hairless and stands on a glandular flower base . The stylus has a length of about 5.5 cm and is constricted directly above the ovary and sloping at this point.

The fruits are broadly egg-shaped capsules , which are occupied with the thickened, permanent base of the style and have a total length of about 1.5 cm. The seeds are black, about 5 mm long.

distribution

The species is mainly distributed in Mexico , from Guatemala it is only known from a few collections, but also occurs in Honduras.
