The Iquique Cove ( Spanish Ensenada Iquique ) is a bay of Greenwich Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located on the east side of Discovery Bay . The Chilean Arturo Prat station, built on the Guesalaga peninsula , stands on the shore of this bay .
The bay is named after the research ship Iquique , which was used to set up the Arturo Prat station as part of the First Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946–1947). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee converted the naming made by the Chileans into English in 1974.
