The Irdabb ( Arabic إردبّ), now spoken Ardabb , also called Ardeb or Rebebe in European sources, is an Egyptian measure of measure for grain . It is related to the ancient Artabe room dimension .

An irdabb consists of 6 waiba of 8 large or 16 small qadah each . Today in Egypt 1 irdabb = 198 liters .

In addition, the following regionally different information on the size of the Irdabb can be found:

Cairo

Al-Qalqashandī reports that in Cairo there was 1 Irdabb = 6 Waiba = 24 Rubʿ = 96 small Qadah. From this, Walther Hinz calculates that an Irdabb corresponds to 69.6 kg of wheat or around 90 liters as a measure of capacity.

Other information:

  • 1 Ardeb = 179 liters = 9023.83 Parisian cubic inches

In the trade, however, 100 Ardeb = 211 Stari (Triester), which means 1 Ardeb = 174 liters

Alexandria

In trade, however

  • 29 4/5 Ardeb = 100 Stari (venetian.), That results in: 1 Ardeb = 279.588 liters
  • 1 Ardeb = 168 Oka = 203 ⅓ kilograms (grain, corn , vetches, beans )

The Ardeb was also a special measure of rice in Alexandria.

  • 1 Ardeb rice = 156 Oka = 189 kilograms
  • 1 Rebebe = 7993.5 Parisian cubic inches = 158.564 liters

rosette

  • 1 Ardeb = 284 liters = 14,317.13 Parisian cubic inches

If you compared the dimensions of the regions, then it was true

and

Abyssinia

The Ardeb was also a grain measure in Abyssinia

  • 1 Mageda = 22 1/5 Parisian cubic inches = 4/9 liters
  • in Gonder : 1 ardeb = 10 Made gas = 4.4 Liter
  • in Massaua : 1 Ardeb = 24 Madegas = 10.57 liters
  • in acre : 1 Ardeb rice = 750 pounds (livorno) = 256 ¾ kilograms = 549.17 pounds (berliner)
