Iris Chang

Iris Chang (born March 28, 1968 in Princeton , † November 9, 2004 in Los Gatos ) was an American writer .

Chang grew up in Champaign, Illinois and studied first at the University of Illinois, then at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. After graduating in 1989, she worked briefly as a reporter for the local press and the Chicago Tribune .

Iris Chang published her first book in 1993 at the age of 25. She became internationally known in 1997 with the publication of the historical factual report The Rape of Nanking - The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II (OT: 'The Rape of Nanking - The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II). For a long time, the book was featured in many international bestseller lists .

Iris Chang was found dead on November 9, 2004, with a bullet wound to the head. Suicide was given as the cause of death. She had only recently been under medical treatment for depression.
