Iron Man is an American doom metal band from Gaithersburg , Maryland that was founded in 1977 under the name Force .

history

The band was founded in 1977 under the name FORCE. In April 1981 the group released their first four-song EP. The FORCE line-up consisted of Alfred Morris III (g.), Simona Queen (v.), Larry Brown (b.) And Kim Martin (dr.). After the EP was released, the band wrote more songs for the upcoming album. However, Simona Queen got out and the band had to look for a new singer. This was soon found and Sherry Bacon was now with FORCE. Shortly thereafter, the band changed their name. Force was now called CHERI BLADE. The band recorded a demo of brand new songs, but unfortunately no record label was interested in releasing an album. Therefore, CHERI BLADE dissolved around 1984/5. Sherry Bacon formed CHAINED LACE shortly afterwards with Norman Lawson (Hellion, The Obsessed). Alfred Morris III then took a break and then a few years later to found the Black Sabbath tribute band Iron Man. In 1993 the German label Hellhound Records released their debut album Black Night , which the band consisted of singer Rob Levey, guitarist Al Morris III, bassist Larry Brown and drummer Ron Kalimon. To promote the album, they went on tour of the west coast of the United States with Cathedral and Pentagram . Since Hellhound Records only wanted to agree to the release of a second album if they accepted Dan Michalek as a new singer, he finally joined the band as a new member. The second album The Passage was then released in October 1995 . Gary Isom can also be heard as the new drummer. The third album Generation Void followed in 1999 via Brainticket Records . Thereupon the bassist Ginger and the drummer Vic Tomaso are represented as new members.

After the band had sidelined for seven years and the members had pursued other activities, the band performed in April 2007 at the Stoner Hands of Doom Festival in Baltimore , whose driving force was Rob Levey. Here the band consisted of the guitarist Al Morris III, the bassist Louis Strachan, the drummer Gus Basilika and the singer Joe Donnelly. Basilika left the band a short time later and was replaced by Brian "Dex" Dexter. With this line-up she recorded the EP Submission , which was released in 2007. In the same year, the first two albums were remastered and re-released on Leaf Hound Records . In 2009 the band went into the studio to record a new album. The first Iron Man album in ten years was released in April 2009 on Shadow Kingdom Records under the name I Have Returned . In 2010 drummer Mike Rix and singer "Screaming Mad" Dee Calhoun joined the band as new members. Iron Man then recorded the self-produced EP Dominance , which was released in early 2011. At the end of the year Rix left the band and was replaced in early 2012 by Jason "Mot" Waldmann. Then the EP Att hålla dig över was released in summer 2012 . In late September 2013 the album South of the Earth was released in Europe on Rise Above Records and in North America in early October on Metal Blade Records .

style

According to Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic , the band plays Doom Metal, which was heavily influenced by Black Sabbath. Robert Müller from Metal Hammer also found that the band plays Doom Metal in the style of Black Sabbath on Black Night . The music is even one of the most exact Black Sabbath copies, which is "a real slap in the face of progress". Christof Leim from the same magazine stated in his review of Generation Void that the band sounds like Black Sabbath in the days of Master of Reality . The riffs are booming and sound like Tony Lommi and the solos are "played crankily". The singer "drones demonically like good old Ozzy , and of course the lyrics are rather mystical". Unlike Black Sabbath is, however occasionally make trips to the True Metal - pathos .
