The Irscher Burg is a castle in Trier in the Irsch district . The castle is the former provost's office of the St. Martin Abbey in Trier, it is located in the street of the same name .

history

The beginnings of Irsch Castle go back to the 16th century. At that time it was also the estate of the St. Martin Abbey. From the time of the Baroque was spoken here in the so-called court house right because the provost as the administrator of the parish and the judiciary was responsible. The castle has only been owned by the parish since 1803. At that time the monastery was dissolved as part of the secularization . Since then it has served as a parsonage. At that time, the Irsch Church, which was demolished in 1833 due to its dilapidation, still stood in place of today's cemetery. Only the steeple remains of the old church. The church has been located in the castle's former tithe barn since 1834 . The monument preservation of the area has been carried out by the Irscher Burg-Verein e. V., which is also dedicated to the preservation of the parish church of St. Georg and the Irscher cemetery.

architecture

It is an ensemble of a large courtyard surrounded by moats and walls. The late medieval castle house is three-storey and has a residential tower from 1587 or 1717. Next door is a two-storey residential wing and a two-storey extension, the so-called court house, both from the middle of the 18th century. From the time of the Baroque Law was here because the provost as the administrator of the parish and the judiciary was responsible.

Various farm buildings are part of the castle complex. The castle is surrounded by an old wall with arches from the years 1766–1768.
