Henrik Nordenberg
Carl Henrik Nordenberg (born May 19, 1857 in Ringamåla landskommun or Asarum near Karlshamn , southern Sweden ; † November 1, 1928 in Düsseldorf ) was a German-Swedish landscape , genre and interior painter , etcher and lithographer of the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Nordenberg, nephew of the genre painter Bengt Nordenberg , followed his uncle to Düsseldorf in 1873, where he received private lessons from him. From 1873 to 1883/1884 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There Andreas and Karl Müller , Heinrich Lauenstein , Eduard Gebhardt , Julius Roeting , Carl Ernst Forberg and Wilhelm Sohn were his teachers. After graduating, he became a member of the Malkasten artists' association , to which he belonged until his death. On the Malkastenbühne in December 1909 he put on several performances of the tableau vivant Good morning, my darling, based on a picture by Benjamin Vautier . The annual report of the artists' association noted that the "delicious and humorous picture [...] always achieved great joyous success". In the 1880s, Nordenberg toured Katwijk and Volendam . When the Swedish genre and interior painter Anders Montan passed away in Düsseldorf on May 14, 1917 , Nordenberg was the last artist in the “Düsseldorf Swedes”, a formerly flourishing Swedish painters' colony in the city.
Works (selection)
It was one of Nordenberg's painterly preferences to depict interiors with openings and depth perspectives into the exterior, for example through open windows, doors and balcony parapets. In many cases, he portrayed women in domestic activities.
