Not so with Montan
Anders Olsson Montan (born February 13, 1845 in Bröddarp near Söderslätt , Schonen , southern Sweden ; † May 14, 1917 in Düsseldorf ) was a Swedish genre and interior painter and lithographer of the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Montan, one of six children of Ola Andersson and Karin Pålsdotter, studied at the Copenhagen Art Academy , then at the Stockholm Art Academy . In 1878 he went to Düsseldorf , where he became a member of the Malkasten artists' association in 1884 and remained single until his death. In search of his preferred motifs - expressive, rather dark interiors of old farmhouses, forges, barns, castle and wine cellars as well as the people who live and work in them - Montan traveled to various German landscapes, such as the Lipper Land , where he spent 32 years spent every summer, and the Moselle . Apart from that, he also had it on the industrial interiors of glass works, steel works and mines. He liked to play with the lighting effects of lamps, fire and candlelight. Montan received an order from the Krupp-Gussstahlfabrik to paint in their facilities. As an industrial painter, he created six large paintings, probably for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago . With Henrik Nordenberg , another Swedish genre and interior painter from Düsseldorf, he took part in major Berlin exhibitions, in 1891 in the International Art Exhibition of the Association of Berlin Artists , in 1900 in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
