Irvette van Zyl (born van Blerk ; born July 5, 1987 in Sandton ) is a South African long-distance runner .

Life

In 2002 she won the Zevenheuvelenloop in 51:06 minutes, the fastest time ever achieved by a runner under 16 over this distance (15 km).

In 2010, as in the previous year, she was the South African champion over 10,000 m . She also finished second in the Two Oceans Marathon half marathon and won the national titles in the half marathon and 10 km road run . In 2011, she was eighth in the New York City Half Marathon and again second on the half distance at the Two Oceans Marathon.

The following year, she ventured the 42.195 km distance for the first time. In the London Marathon she finished 18th and qualified with her time of 2:33:41 h for the marathon of the Olympic Games in London 2012 . There she got out of the race early because of an injury to the Achilles tendon .

In 2013 she was tenth in the London Marathon.

Irvette van Zyl is a student and starts for the Nedbank Running Club. In 2012 she married the hurdler LJ van Zyl .
