The Irving Plaza is a concert hall in the form of a ballroom in New York City and is located between 17 Irving Place and East 15th Street.

history

At the same place, the Irving Hall was built in 1860 as a venue; dance events, readings and concerts took place there. In 1886 the building was rebuilt and expanded; it initially functioned as a German theater, comedy house, Yiddish theater, French and Russian cinema, before becoming the community center for veterans of the Polish Armed Forces in the West in 1948 .

The building offers space for 1,025 people. It is now run by Live Nation Entertainment; since 1978 it has acted as an event hall for mainly rock music and its sub-genres. For a short time the venue also operated as the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza . So far, internationally successful music stars such as Bob Dylan , Talking Heads , the Ramones , U2 , Pearl Jam , System of a Down , Dave Matthews Band , Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark and Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed here . Live albums by Dinosaur Jr. , Mars , Fishbone and Ellen Christi have also been recorded at concerts .
