Ellen Christi

Ellen Christi (* 7. March 1958 as Ellen Christerson in Chicago ) is an American singer of creative jazz and music producer.

Live and act

From 1973 to 1975 Christi studied piano with Jack Hubal in her native city. Then she moved to New York City , where she continued her studies with Jaki Byard from 1976 to 1980 . She studied vocal technique and movement with Jeanne Lee . Then she took lessons in bel canto from the opera singer Galli Campi.
Christi was one of the founders of the New York City Artists' Collective , which worked and recorded with Butch Morris in 1982 . In 1983 she performed at the Sound Unity Festival in the Ensemble William Parker with her colleagues Jeanne Lee and Lisa Sokolov . In 1992 she sang in his "Song Cycle" (CD). Together with Jürg Solothurnmann , Roger Girod and Thomas Hirt, she set poetry by E. E. Cummings to music . She also worked with Ray Anderson , Mark Dresser , Reggie Workman , Rashied Ali , Tony Scott , Ed Blackwell , Kenny Wheeler , Steve McCall , Rahn Burton , Roy Campbell , Christoph Gallio and Hans Koch .

In addition to working with her ensemble Alliens' Talk and Joe Gallants Illuminati , in recent years she has worked in Italy with Fiorenzo Sordini, Claudio Lodati , Carlo Actis Dato and Enrico Fazio , while in Switzerland she has worked with the trio illustrio . In addition, Christi works as a producer for the Bliss Corporation in Turin , which produces dance music, and founded the independent jazz label Network Records .
