Carlo Actis Dato
Carlo Actis Dato (born March 21, 1952 in Turin ) is an Italian jazz saxophonist (tenor and baritone saxophone) and bass clarinet player, as well as band leader and composer .
Live and act
Carlo Actis Dato grew up in southern Italy and in 1974 co-founded the avant-garde jazz rock formation Art Studio in Turin ; the group existed until the mid-1980s. Dato became known in the Italian jazz scene in the 1980s and 1990s through his participation in the bands of Andrea Centazzo , Enrico Fazio and Giorgio Occhipinti ; He also played in the formation Enten Eller ("Trait D'Union", 1997), the Italian Unabile Orchestra , the Proxima Centauri Orchestra by Giorgio Gaslini and his big band productions "Masks" (1990/91) and "Mister O" (1996 ). In 1999 he also formed the Brasserie Trio with Alberto Mandarini and Lauro Rossi .
Since the 1980s Dato has recorded a number of albums under his own name, mostly for the Splasc (h) label in a quartet line-up accompanied by saxophonist Piero Ponzo , bassist Enrico Fazio and drummer Fiorenzo Sordini . In addition, the London avant-garde jazz label Leo Records released a solo album ("Urartu", 1994) and a duo album with the saxophonist / clarinetist Kazutoki Umezu ("Wake Up With the Birds", 1998). With the bass player Baldo Martínez he recorded the album "Folklore Imaxinario" in 2005, which takes up elements of world music from an imaginary folklore , and in 2006 Leo released the second solo album "The Moonwalker".
