Irynej Bilyk

Irynej Bilyk OSBM (born January 2, 1950 in Knjaschpil , Lviv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) was Bishop of Buschatsch in Ukraine and has been a canon in the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore since 2007 .

Life

Irynej Bilyk joined the in October 1967 Congregation of the Basilian of Sts. Jehoshaphat , made his profession on October 13, 1978 and was ordained a priest a day later .

The auxiliary bishop in Ivano-Frankivsk , Sofron Dmyterko OSBM, donated him episcopal ordination on August 15, 1989 ; Co- consecrators were Ivan Semedi , Bishop of Mukachevo , and Ivan Margitytsch , Auxiliary Bishop in Mukachevo .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on January 16, 1991 auxiliary bishop in Ivano-Frankivsk and titular bishop of Novae . On July 21, 2000 he was appointed the first bishop of Butschatsch . He resigned from his office on July 28, 2007 and was at the same time by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed canon in the papal basilica "Santa Maria Maggiore" in Rome .
