Isaac Darlington

Isaac Darlington (born December 13, 1781 in West Chester , Pennsylvania , †  April 27, 1839 there ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Darlington was a cousin of Congressmen Edward Darlington (1795-1884) and William Darlington (1782-1863). He attended Friends School in Birmingham . He then taught himself as a teacher in the district schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1801, he began working in this profession in West Chester. Politically, he became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s . From 1807 to 1809 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; in 1814 and 1815 he was a lieutenant in a volunteer regiment from Pennsylvania during the final stages of the British-American War .

In the congressional elections of 1816 Darlington was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded his cousin William on March 4, 1817. Since he renounced a further candidacy in 1818, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1819 . Then the mandate fell back to William Darlington.

In 1820, Isaac Darlington was appointed assistant district attorney in Chester County . From 1821 until his death, he served there and in Delaware County as the presiding judge of the respective district courts. He died on April 27, 1839 in his hometown of West Chester.
