Levi Pawling

Levi Pawling (born July 25, 1773 in Norristown , Province of Pennsylvania , †  September 7, 1845 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Levi Pawling attended public schools in his home country and then the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1795, he began to work in this profession in Norristown and Philadelphia. He was also the trustee of the University of Pennsylvania properties at the time. In 1816 he became chairman of a commission to organize funds for the construction of locks on the Schuylkill River . Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party .

In the congressional election of 1816 Pawling was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Hahn on March 4, 1817 . Until March 3, 1819, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1818 Levi Pawling was also mayor of Norristown. He also became a board member of the Bank of Montgomery County . He died on September 7, 1845 in his hometown of Norristown.
