Samuel Gross

Samuel Gross (born November 10, 1776 in Upper Providence , Montgomery County , Pennsylvania , †  March 19, 1839 in Trappe , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1819 and 1823 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Gross attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . Between 1803 and 1807 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1811 to 1815 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional election of 1818 Gross was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Levi Pawling on March 4, 1819 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1823 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Samuel Gross withdrew from politics. He died on March 19, 1839 in Trappe.
