Isaac Newton Evans

Isaac Newton Evans (born July 29, 1827 in West Chester , Pennsylvania , †  December 3, 1901 in Hatboro , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1887 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Isaac Evans attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent medical degree at Bowdoin College and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his license as a doctor in 1852, he began to practice in Johnsville in this profession. In 1856 he moved his residence and medical practice to Hatboro. There he also became President of Hatboro National Bank . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1876 Evans was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Alan Wood on March 4, 1877 . Since he refused to run again in 1878, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1879 . In the elections of 1882 he was re-elected to Congress in the seventh district of his state, where he succeeded William Godshalk on March 4, 1883 . By March 3, 1885 Evans completed another term in the US House of Representatives. In 1884 he did not stand for re-election.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Evans worked again as a doctor and in banking. He was also active in the real estate market. He died in Hatboro on December 3, 1901.
