Life

Its origin is unknown. He said he was a student of Patriarch Meletios of Alexandria for seven years . He was probably the Igumen Isaak of the Stepan Monastery in Volhynia , who took part in the 1596 meeting of Orthodox clergy against the Union of Brest . In 1599, as head of the Dubno monastery in Volhynia, he was involved in discussions between Orthodox and Protestant representatives in Vilnius .

From 1600 to 1601 he traveled to the Patriarchs of Jerusalem and Antioch on behalf of Patriarch Meletios of Alexandria . In 1602 he was involved in founding the Derman Monastery in Galicia and became its first Igumen. Isaac was involved in the production of some letterpresses in the local printing house and in translations from the Greek. He left the monastery around 1605 and probably went to Mount Athos , where he said he lived as a monk for 15 years. In 1614 he signed a document there.

In 1617, Isaac was involved in the founding of the Lutsk Brotherhood as the Igumen of the Czernczycy monastery . In 1620 he was mentioned again as head of this monastery.

1621 Isaac was by Patriarch Theophanes III. consecrated from Jerusalem as the first Orthodox bishop of Łuck and Ostrog since the Union of Brest in 1596, in Biała Cerkiew near Kiev. There is no historical news from this period about any actual activity in this office. In 1622 he also stayed in Kiev. From 1624 to 1625 he traveled on behalf of Metropolitan Job Borecki from Kiev to Moscow , where he asked Tsar Michael and Patriarch Philaret for support for the beleaguered Orthodox Church in Poland-Lithuania.

In 1627 he stayed as Bishop of Łuck in Stepan Monastery, possibly for some time, and in 1628 took part in a regional synod in Gródek in Volhynia. In 1631 he was present at the consecration of Metropolitan Petro Mohyla in Kiev. He also stayed there in 1632. In 1633 he was appointed Bishop of Przemyśl and remained in this office until 1636. In 1640 he was mentioned for the last time at a synod in Kiev.

Isaac died probably on December 30, 1643 in the Międzygórski monastery near Kiev.
